300 students from across the South West will be attending the Breaking Into Media event on Monday 14th November, which has been organised by Plymouth Media-Partnership for the Royal Television Society Devon and Cornwall Centre, in association with the University of Plymouth, as part of National Enterprise Week.

Sponsored by Plymouth University and Plymouth College of Art this annual event brings together people from industry and students from across the region. It’s a chance for delegates to hear about the industry from respected professionals working in the sector and it’s a chance for students to get top tips on how to develop their careers.

Delegates will be treated to a variety of sessions from well-known industry professionals. The day begins with “Getting In & Getting On” a session chaired by Denis Gartside, featuring Dimitri Houtart from BBC South West, Jeremy Hibbard from Televisionary, and Siobhan Robbie from Silverstream. The seminar will give advice on getting a job within the media and how to ensure career progression.

The day will also feature a special session on “Secrets of a Hotel Inspector” which will give delegates a glimpse behind the scenes of this award winning Channel Five series in the company of members of the production team..

In the afternoon there will be the presentation of the Royal Television Society Devon & Cornwall Centre student awards in a range of categories. The awards are a fantastic opportunity to celebrate some of the great work produced by students across the region, and the event enables established media professionals to spot tomorrow’s film and programme makers.
