Social Enterprise @ Occupy Bristol

Event code: GEW11-30474

Time:
18:00

Individuals from the social enterprise community in Bristol are leading a discussion at the Occupy Bristol camp about social enterprise and how it can be a viable alternative to Capitalism.

The Occupy agenda is campaigning against business greed and the pursuit of profit for its own sake. The purpose of this open event is to put social enterprise squarely on to the agenda at Occupy and start the discussion and exploration about what the 'Alternative' might look like.

The social enterprise model demonstrates that the business principle in itself is not intrinsically bad and how profits can be put to good use within the community. Creating wealth (social and economic) and keeping it within the community in which the business operates is a positive message for Big Business and Banks to listen to. Apart from the social impact made by social enterprises (e.g. job creation for excluded individuals; social cohesion; ethical and fair production) this alternative business model showcases a variety of ethical approaches including inclusive governance, fair management, community engagement, democracy and an ethical supply chain.
