The Stock Market Challenge 2011 (Cardiff and Vale Enterprise Consortium)
Event code: GEW11-30101
Stock Market Challenge is a rewarding and enjoyable activity that is a gateway to enterprise education and financial capability. It will also help your students develop their personal, learning, thinking and functional skills.
In recreating the excitement of a real trading floor, the activity provides a platform for your students to learn how to work together as a team, solve problems under pressure, analyse information and communicate effectively.
Working in teams of four, students buy and sell shares and foreign exchange on a ‘live’ trading floor just like brokers do on trading floors and on-line all over the world every day.
This event brings together students from colleges across South Wales as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week 2011. These students will be competing for the team prize of Stock Market Challenge Champions 2011 (£100 Amazon vouchers). There are also team prizes for 2nd and 3rd place. The event will be co-facilitated by a talented crop of University students acting as ‘Floor Managers’ by handling the trades.
Institutions involved form the Cardiff and Vale Enterprise (CAVE) consortium funded by the Welsh Government and run exciting and stimulating enterprise activities throughout the year. These institutions are: • Bridgend College • Cardiff and Vale College • St. David’s Catholic College • UWIC
No previous experience of finance is required but students will need to be prepared for the highs and lows of being a stock market trader. This will involve team work, excitement and fun along way!
