Blind in Business speednetworking 2008

Blind in Business, a charity helping blind and partially sighted people achieve their ambitions and help them into careers, held a ‘Diversity Speed Recruitment’ event. Visually impaired graduates and undergraduates met with HR professionals at Citi, Canary Wharf.
Fifteen recruiters from top organisations, who already have a positive attitude to diversity or would like to learn more, took a day out of their work to speednetwork with 15 young visually impaired people. They spent eight minutes interviewing and getting to know each other, and then heard from two visually impaired people who had successfully found work. One had gone on to work for HSBC and the other for Merrill Lynch.
According to Andy Flack, Employment Services Manager for Blind in Business: ‘Diversity Speed Recruitment 2008 was a resounding success. We helped to raise the confidence of two sets of people that traditionally fear each other.’
Blind in Business used the event to showcase what great work they do for visually impaired people all year round. As a result of the day, two people secured internships with top recruiters! One of them went to work for Bristows (www.bristows.com), award winning Lawyers based in London.
