On 21st November 2008, Hull University played host to 11 of Hull’s schools and colleges, bringing them all together for an Entrepreneurship Masterclass. The event aimed to encourage young people aged 15 – 19, to think about running a business as a viable career option.

Hull Entrepreneurship Masterclass 2008Local entrepreneurs, activities and discussions, inspired students, and gave them an insight into how entrepreneurship can be a rewarding and exciting job!  They were then given expert advice on how to turn their ideas into reality by local business start-up and support agencies. Students were then tasked with putting their enterprising skills into practice by coming up with a marketing concept for different products. They then had to pitch their ideas in the formidable, ‘Bear Pit’.

A wealth of important ministers joined in the fun. Alan Johnson MP, patron of Hull Youth Enterprise Partnership and Diana Johnson MP spoke about the importance of enterprise, and Ed Balls MP Secretary of State for Children and Families made an appearance via video message.

The event seemed to have the desired effect of inspiring and informing students. Some comments from students were:

‘It made me think of what I need to do and how to do it.’

‘I CAN start up my own business, but I have to work for it..’
