‘Making it Better’ at Ingfield Manor School 2007

Innovative solutions to everyday items for people with cerebral palsy.

Last year, to celebrate Enterprise Week 2007, 22 children primary and secondary level pupils from Ingfield Manor School in West Sussex devoted Tuesday 13 November to coming up with ideas for how some everyday items – mirror, hairbrush, play station 2 and make-up could be made easier to use for young people with cerebral palsy to use.

The children worked together in teams to discuss problems that they have in using these products and to come up with ideas for design innovations and modifications.

The design and technology day produced some fantastic prototypes of new and innovative products that young disabled people can use independently.

The winning designs were a flexible, adjustable mirror that can attach to almost any surface with two handles at the side in order to manoeuvre, and a piece of equipment that can aid in putting tops on independently.

Mr Alistair Bruce, Headteacher said: “We are really pleased that this was such a successful day. We are delighted to support the Make your Mark campaign, and to help ‘Make it Better’ for all young people, disabled and non-disabled alike”.
