St Wilfrid's 2008 students get financially literate and media savvy
St Wilfrid’s School used Enterprise Week as an opportunity to promote enterprise in school, using external partners to help deliver a successful range of activities.
Financial literacy workshop
The school saw financial literacy as a key enterprise skill, so Year 7 and 8 students were treated to a workshop by Natwest, practising budgeting and planning an imaginary trip to New York. The sixth formers, took part in a Stock Market Challenge, tasked with making as much money as possible from an investment portfolio of £100,000. The students loved the buzz of the day, and one particular student really enjoyed ‘rushing over to the laptop to hear the news when everyone was shouting at each other to make more money’.
Media Challenge
Other sixth formers took part in the Media Challenge, where they had to create a three minute advertisement. Summersdale Productions lead the session with a talk on how to get into the media industry, and then showed students how to edit films. The session really helped students think about their future career paths, with one student making the bold statement of ‘I definitely want to go into media’.
