Exeter Entrepreneurs outRAGeous TRADERS 2009

Newly formed university society, Exeter Entrepreneurs, ran their ‘outRAGeous TRADERS’ event as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week 2009.
Inspired by the infamous 'Paper Clip Challenge’ - swap a paperclip for more valuable items - each student was given a USB memory stick (worth £1) to start their trading over the course of the week.
Harnessing digital tools, students posted on twitter every time they made a trade, which resulted in creating an online ‘rat race’! At the end of the week participants brought their final items back to the University Innovation Centre where they were posted on eBay.
Sarah Hodges won the prize for trading her USB stick to a Dell laptop, DVD Player, and Free View Box which sold for £130 on ebay!
The ourRageous TRADERS event made £1,079 profit. Students kindly donated 80% to the Exeter University charity RAG, keeping 10% for themselves and putting 10% towards prize money for the most outrageous trader. Due to this success, Exeter Entrepreneurs have bigger plans for GEW 2010. Watch this space!
