Filton College make global recipes 2009

Filton College in Bristol used Global Entrepreneurship Week to link up with schools from around the world. Schools in Ghana, South Africa, Germany and the Netherlands joined the Bristol college to produce and market a globally inspired recipe book. Students had to work closely with their counterparts abroad, researching recipes and working together to create the book.
During the week, the students ran an advertising campaign, selling the recipe book along with some featured food. In total they made £350 profit which was donated to Children in Need and UNICEF. The programme had injected such enthusiasm and energy into the students, that a live link was set-up with Elangi College in South Africa so they could share experiences.
Since creating the recipe book and holding the sale, some of the students have aspirations to carry on in business, many choosing to trade online. ‘I would like to think about designing my own project and expanding it to go further into a proper business.’
Event organiser William Downey said about the event, “This was a challenging, but very practical, enterprise for the students to orgasnise, which took a great deal of planning and led to a very successful implementation. It has enabled them to take their experiences of the enterprise into their classroom discussions and make reference to them in various coursework assignments.”
