In partnership with women’s network, WorcNet, and Business Link Yorkshire, Craven College ran a free event to celebrate Home Enterprise Day 2009.

The event was a chance for aspiring home entrepreneurs to hear start-up stories from award-winning speakers, attend practical workshops on how to start a business from home, registering your business and marketing tips. They also got the chance to do lots of networking!

The highlight was a keynote speech from local entrepreneur Libby Nightingale, who co-founded the photoblog Chromasia with her husband. Cradling two week old baby Teagan - her eighth child - she described how the blog, initially aimed at keeping friends and family up-to-date, led to them jetting around the world for commissions, as well as Libby winning the North West Women in Business Award 2009.

The event turned out to be a catalyst for year-round enterprise activity. Attendees deemed the event such a success, that they requested a series of business workshops following on from the event. As a result, three partners are hosting ‘Boost your business using Social Media’ in February and more workshops like these will developed according to demand.

Attendees were clearly inspired by the event with some saying ‘The event has given me a focus and some practical information on how best to move forward’ and others saying ‘I feel more encouraged about starting up’.
