Lambeth businesses get revitalised 2009
To launch the new Brand Piano mentoring scheme, Lambeth Council held an awards ceremony during Global Entrepreneurship Week 2009.
In the stunning surroundings of the National Theatre rooftop on London’s South Bank, female entrepreneurs showcased their businesses in a 10 min pitch, all hoping to be one of the three winners to be awarded a range of business prizes. Mentors Jeanette Pritchard (JP Creative), Katie Perrior (iNHouse PR) and Claire Morton (Alchemy events) and the CEO of Lambeth Council, Derrick Anderson, were on the panel of judges.
The prizes and advice available on the day have gone a long way in helping these female entrepreneurs. Mildred Talabi, a 26 year old from Streatham, won £1000 to help grow her business, RawLoveUK. Along with the PR, branding and marketing expertise, this helped her take the business to the next level, launching a new product, being featured in several media outlets and getting shortlisted for the Lambeth Business Awards. Mildred says ‘I was able to immediately apply some of the knowledge I gleaned to Raw Love UK to gain publicity, grow the business and increase our sales. It was also a great opportunity to meet with other enterprising ladies. It was interesting to see what other people are doing and I’m still in touch with them now.’ Read Mildred’s full story
Tahlee Johnson came third on the day and has since set up an online vintage boutique www.lisetteandthefox.com with a shop in Brixton village.
