Who's Behind GEW?

Global Entrepreneurship Week founders?

Global Entrepreneurship Week was founded by Enterprise United Kingdom and the Kauffman Foundation.

Enterprise UK

As well as being a founder of GEW, the UK part of the campaign is run by Enterprise UK.  We are the UK’s national campaign to give people the confidence, skills and ambition to be enterprising – to have ideas and make them happen.

We were founded by the four leading UK business membership organisations – the British Chambers of Commerce, the CBI, the Federation of Small Businesses and the Institute of Directors. Their Director Generals sit on Enterprise UK’s board, which is chaired by entrepreneur Peter Jones.  We are also supported by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills.

The Kauffman Foundation

The Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation was established in the mid-1960s by the late entrepreneur and philanthropist Ewing Marion Kauffman. Their vision is to foster “a society of economically independent individuals who are engaged citizens, contributing to the improvement of their communities.” In service of this vision, they focus grant making and operations on two areas: advancing entrepreneurship and improving the education of children and youth. They carry out their mission through four programmatic areas: Entrepreneurship, Advancing Innovation, Education, and Research and Policy.

Where we’ve come from….

The Global Entrepreneurship Week model is an adaptation of Enterprise Week in the UK, and has been running since 2004. In 2008, it became part of a wider global movement to become what we now know as Global Entrepreneurship Week.
